Ron Tussing has been awarded the "Pete Halbert" award for his work throughout 2000 at Halbert Mill Company.
The Pete Halbert award was established by the Halbert Mill Company Board to recognize one employee each year that exemplifies the ideals of a manufacturing man like Pete Halbert. Ron Tussing is the first recipient of this prestigious annual award.
The award includes a brick and glass trophy with the words "Providing Outstanding Commitment with Dedication to Quality, Safety and Production." Mr. Tussing also received a check for $1000.00.
Mr. Tussing has been with Halbert Mill Co. for seven years and serves as Engineering and Maintenance Supervisor.
There were six nominations for this years’ "Pete Halbert" award. Some excerpts from Ron’s nominations include, "Works tirelessly to allow HMC to keep up in a changing industry", "Works very hard on many improvements", and "Makes our production more efficient". He said upon hearing the announcement, "Thank you for recognizing me with this honor."
Pete Halbert founded Halbert Mill Co. as a veneer and saw mill in 1940. He worked at the mill and began the iron ore business in Dialville, which he sold to Comer Hudson when he retired in 1969.
Not one to stay retired, he soon returned to Halbert Mill Co. Until he passed away in 1985, Mr. Halbert’s "hobby" was working as a production hand in the mill he loved so much. He worked each day to produce quality products for his customers.
Halbert Mill is very proud to have someone like Ron Tussing who carries on Petes ideal of a manufacturing man.
